September 15, 2025 | Demand: We Want Care for Our Caregivers

Opening Word

"Caregiving is not just work, it is the foundation of our communities."
Dorothy Lee Bolden, founder of the National Domestic Workers Union

We are the daughters of women like Dorothy Lee Bolden — women who turned invisible labor into visible power, who organized not only to survive but to sustain the world. We inherit their courage, their vision, and their insistence that care is not a burden, but a source of strength.

And so, it is no surprise that this week’s demand rises straight from their legacy: We Want Care for Our Caregivers.

This Week’s Demand: We Want Care for Our Caregivers

Each week, these SOS Dispatches lift up one of the demands from GirlTREK’s 10-Point Plan for Joy and Justice.

This week, our demand is clear:

We want care from the womb to the tomb.

This means reproductive justice, an end to inequitable treatment of our members during pregnancy and childbirth by healthcare institutions, progressive paid leave, accessibility in public spaces for people with disabilities, and dignified care, support, and housing for our elders.

How We Respond: Walk. Talk. Solve Problems Together.

At GirlTREK, we fight the three deadly I’s — inactivity, isolation, and injustice — by walking, talking, and solving problems together. This week, our sisters showed what that looks like in action:

WALK

In Utica, Mississippi, crews came out to walk with the newly elected mayor — exchanging concerns and ideas about how to build a healthier, safer community together.

In Bakersfield, California, women gathered for a sunrise walk dedicated to suicide prevention.
