Solidarity in the Streets! Hot Girl Climate Walk

Hey Family,

It’s your GirlTREK Advocacy Team chiming in with a special Black August Dispatch!

After launching our advocacy agenda during our membership meeting in March, and uplifting each of the demands on our 10-Point Plan for Joy & Justice during Self-Care School, we are celebrating the beauty, power and legacy of this month by linking arms and steps with systems-change partners fighting for our communities.

This week, we stand in solidarity with Girl Plus Environment. Here’s a special message and call to action from them to our community:

“At Girl Plus Environment, we believe that the fight for environmental justice is inseparable from the fight for land and housing justice. Black and Brown communities have long borne the brunt of housing discrimination, displacement, and environmental pollution. From toxic industrial facilities built near our neighborhoods to heat islands in cities with few trees, our communities are too often denied access to clean, safe, and walkable environments.

We envision a future where Black families not only have high-quality, affordable housing but also the power to shape what thriving neighborhoods look like, from owning land that can be passed down to our children, to preserving cultural landmarks that honor our legacies. We are committed to uplifting Gen Z and Millennial women+ to become fierce advocates who challenge environmental racism and demand policies that prioritize our communities over corporations.

Join us in this movement. Learn how environmental decisions impact the land and homes we love, and speak up for policies that protect Black communities from pollution and displacement. Follow us @girlplusenvironment to discover how you can turn your voice into power.”

On Saturday, August 23, we will host an intimate walk and talk in Atlanta to learn directly from our partners at Girl Plus Environment. If you’re in Atlanta, RSVP right here (space is limited!).

Not in Atlanta? No worries, sis. We know you have connections to organizations in your community advocating for environmental justice. We want to know about them. Click here to tell us a bit more.

Stay tuned for future dispatches and special spotlights!

See you on the pavement,
