DaughtersOf Discussion With Dr. Bernice A. King and Ilyasah Shabazz

Last night was truly remarkable! Seriously, did that really happen?! Thank you to all of you who tuned in to watch our second #daughtersof discussion with the iconic Dr. Bernice A. King and Ilyasah Shabazz, the #daughtersof legendary families, Coretta Scott and Dr. Martin Luther King and Betty and Malcolm (X) Shabazz.

What an honor it was to host two phenomenal women on our platform to talk candidly about their mothers, fathers, and the many lessons they passed on about grief, activism, sisterhood, and spirituality. It was a sermon we all must hear!

These historic conversations are a core part of our #DaughtersOf campaign, which is centered around telling the stories of the women in our families and the lessons they taught us. Last week, legends Angela Davis and Nikki Giovanni came together to help us kick off our campaign with a first-ever conversation sharing secrets on survival and self-care for Black women. Over half a million of you tuned in and thousands of you have since flooded the internet telling YOUR #daughtersof story! We love to see it.

And we’re not slowing things down anytime soon.

Next up, we have a special #daughtersof conversation next Friday, May 22nd with the presidents of Sigma Gamma Rho, Delta Sigma Theta, Alpha Kappa Alpha and Zeta Phi Beta sororities! It will be a night filled with sisterhood and service so tell your friends and join us on our FB Live next week.

Before then, we want to remind you to continue to tell your #daughtersof story! Make sure your story is included in this cultural movement and honor the legacies of the women who came before you. In honor of how last night’s conversation made us feel, we’re asking you to share a vintage photo of your mother or any picture of yourself that depicts bravery. Then in the caption, answer this prompt:

Who are you the daughter of and what did your mother teach you about bravery?

Stay engaged on our Facebook and Instagram pages, we have more exciting surprises in store for you :) We’ll be looking out for your stories so be sure to tag #daughtersof and #girltrek! We’ll be reposting our favorites.
