April By The Numbers

Today marks the end of our first official month of walking and organizing for the 2022 GirlTrek season. This month was full of powerful moments. From examples of personal healing to mass organizing in the streets, we are so proud and grateful for the impact that GirlTrek is having. Today we offer a reflection on the month in numbers.

This look back at April is important as we march towards our goal of taking over 1,000 Black neighborhoods. It’s an opportunity to share wins and uplift the crew of coaches and volunteers who are powering the movement. We also celebrate and share the experience of joy that women are having around the world.

375: The number of service hours our Coaching Fellows put in supporting volunteers and training Crew Leaders this month. Major shout out to Coach Christina Smith Galloway whose service and leadership in South Carolina earned her Organizer of the Month, voted on by her peers. From one of her many nominations, “She not only embodies what a crew leader, organizer, and coach are, but she is the epitome of what it looks like to be the Harriet in a community.”

129: The number of Crew Leaders who checked in on Saturday to let us know what neighborhood they were walking in. Did you know that our goal is to have Crew Leaders checking in at least 1,000 Black neighborhoods by the end of the year? Make sure you and your Crew are counted by checking in for the weekly Roll Call here.

2: The number of Webby Awards that GirlTrek won! That’s right! Presented annually by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, the Webbys honor excellence in digital content. GirlTrek took home two Anthem awards last month. One for Best Live Podcast Recording AND - the big one - The People’s Voice Award, voted on by the public. That means if you see us walking down the streets like this, just know we’re on our way to the red carpet!

1.4 Million: The number of people we reached through our social post this month. If you are not apart of the #GirlTrek revolution, you are missing so much goodness! Make sure you are following us across all our platforms using @GirlTrek, and make sure you are sharing your photos using #GirlTrek. Your photos serve as a lifeline to women around the world who rely on this movement for inspiration.

68: The number of countries with women walking in GirlTrek. Shout out to this crew in Ghana!

7: The number of days until registration opens up for our annual weekend of radical self-care held in the mountains of Colorado. The #StressProtest is an epic 3-day event. Part Black Girl Campout, part Wellness Revival, it’s a place to discover new friends, new skills, and new parts of yourself. Registration will open on Friday, May 6th, at Stressprotest.com.

5pm: The time that Virgie Patterson and her Crew, the Brentwood Beauties, selected for their weekly walk in East Contra Costa, California. GirlTrek’s How to Be a Crew Leader Field Guide, is full of tips for women looking to start or establish walks with the crew. Download it here!

1: The number of women you need on your walk to be successful. Shout out to the Solo Trekkers who continue to walk and flood our timelines with your beautiful sweaty selfies. We see you!

51: The number of Coaching Fellows that we want to thank for their service. This month you have leaned in with questions, suggestions, and pure courage as you help us to pilot this new organizing strategy. We are grateful.

_______: The number of Victories Claimed. 213,071 of you signed up for Black History Bootcamp and even more of you hit the streets this month. Don’t forget to claim your victory when you complete 21 out of 30 days of walking. Everyone who claims a victory will get a pair of our 2022 golden shoelaces in your mailbox this Summer!  You don’t want to be without them so let us know you did it.

Can’t wait to walk and celebrate our success with you tomorrow!

Vanessa and Morgan
