An Invitation to Join us this Sunday

Brittany Packnett said yes, she will join us as a special guest for GirlTREK’s 9-Day Prayer Trek. She will be with Morgan and I on Sunday for Day 1: LOVE.

I can’t think of a better person for this assignment. If you don’t know Brittany, she is one of the most dedicated social justice crusaders that our country has and she has committed her life to advancing truth and organizing the collective, with a special focus on young Black people.

But it’s not her resume that makes me so grateful to be able to talk to her.

It’s her life.

It’s her light.

It’s the way she shows up in the quiet moments. It’s the way she has carried the load as a Black woman publicly. It’s her and her man. Her and her baby. It’s the way she has fiercely protected both on social media. It’s the sisterhood that she keeps around her.

She inspires me. She inspires Morgan.

And we want to know how she does it. It’s a conversation that Morgan and I have had multiple times. We are the leaders of GirlTREK, looking for leaders ourselves to model how to do this work and not be consumed by it, swallowed up by the rage, defeated by the constant need to do battle.

How do we build healthy homes with our partners and family, and love on them daily, in the midst of everything that we face?

It’s the first question I want to ask Brittany. It’s a question that we will ask you while you walk with us, and we will open up the lines to hear your answers. Then we will pray together. Pray that love transforms every hurt place to a healed place. Every hurt person to a healed person.

The rest of the 9-day line up will include women just as magnificent in their faith-walks and glow as Brittany.

That includes the young singer-songwriter Victory Boyd on Monday. If you are not familiar, her voice carries the soul of Tracy Chapman and the faith of Mahalia. I recently heard her live in concert in Philadelphia, and I listened as she powerfully declared that despite the calls of the music industry to stay more secular, she simply had to answer the personal call of her faith and her music to speak the meditation of her heart, which were God-centered.

Victory will help us reflect on the Fruit of the Spirit, Joy.

She will be followed by the Reverend Dr. Neichelle Guidry, Dean of Sisters Chapel at Spelman College, and later in the week some of your faves, including The Nap Minster herself Tricia Hersey and our friends at Truth's Table.

Each morning’s conversation will be an invitation to reflect, reconsider, and reimagine how to live the life of your dreams by honing the qualities of each Fruit—love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Of course, Morgan and I will come to the pavement to lead each call with honesty and integrity and I ask for prayers for the both of us as we set out on this journey. It is not easy to open up the curtain on our lives and allow our personal stories to be a part of the movement's narrative, but it is necessary and we promise you that in these 9 days of seeking our posture will be one of learning and genuine exploration, not preaching.

So come one, come all. We start this Sunday.

HOW IT WORKS: Each morning you will receive an email focused on one of the Fruits of the Spirit. It will include a reflection and a prayer prompt. Then join us every day at 9 AM ET/6 AM PT for our live prayer calls which are sure to inspire you. If you aren’t able to listen live, the recordings will be available each day by Noon ET/9 a.m. PT on our social media platforms.

It’s not too late to register. You don’t want to miss out on our daily emails.

Touching and agreeing with you for a powerful week of transformation,

Vanessa
