“Don’t forget—when you see us dancing in the middle of war, it’s not because we lost our way. It’s because we have to find it—over and over again, in each other.” – Cherrell Brown
The grills are heating up. The playlists are loaded. Somebody’s claiming the potato salad—and we’re all just hoping they can be trusted.
And while we gather in joy, the news is loud.
On a weekend meant to celebrate freedom, this country is debating Medicare and Medicaid—who gets care, who gets left behind.
That contradiction has always been part of the American story. And we’ve always known how to live with it—how to hold both the joy and the injustice. And when the system doesn't serve us, we build what does.
That’s exactly what we’re doing now.
Right now, we’re gathering stories, businesses, and events from across this movement—so we can spotlight you and help this community support each other in real ways.
Here’s how to plug in right now:
Build and Expand the Movement
1. Share your business. From side hustles to sacred callings, women in this movement are building incredible things—and we’re lifting them up.

2. Share your events. Do you know of a walk, community gathering, or event where GirlTREK should be this summer?
[Submit your event here »] Let us know where to show up.
And don’t forget, any woman, anywhere, can start walking and organizing with GirlTREK.
3. Join our biggest walk of the season. We’re walking with the WNBA at All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis. This league is inspiring the world—and we’re proud to walk beside them. If you are anywhere in the Midwest, we want you there!

4. Walk with the next generation.
This summer, we’re kicking off Mommy & Me Walks across the country—celebrating the power of moms, daughters, aunties, and nieces walking together. It’s a beautiful way to nurture health and connection across generations.
[New York | Grovetown, GA | Columbus, Ohio | Johnson City, TN | Tampa, FL | Savannah, GA | Aurora, CO ]
5. Reclaim your time. Self-Care School is always open—walk, rest, and reset at your own pace.

Member Spotlight: Claudia Brownlee
And speaking of walking across generations…
As your business submissions continue rolling in we wanted to spotlight one from the next generation of this movement.
Meet Claudia Brownlee, pictured above with her mom, Angela.
Claudia started walking with GirlTREK nearly a decade ago, right out of high school. Since then, she’s walked through college, grad school, and a career in costume design.
Now she's launching a jewelry business, ClauDise Accessories, and her latest collection is inspired by this sisterhood!
Claudia and her mom, Angela, are a beautiful reminder of what can be passed down and shared through this community, and we are grateful for them and grateful for you.
This is who we are.
We hold the contradictions. We create the solutions. We dance in the middle of it all—not because we’re lost, but because we find our way in each other.
Be well this weekend!
