Welcome to Self-Care for Freedom Fighters, Powered by GirlTREK!

You are not merely a participant in a challenge you are the architect of your liberation on the brink of a significant transformation and we are so excited to walk this path with you.

Week 0 of this 10-week experience is dedicated to preparing ourselves for the journey. It’s the foundation. It’s time to set intentions, clear out digital clutter and get clear about what we are walking away from and what we are walking towards.

As we move forward, each week will unfold new themes, habits, and practices designed to help you #GetFree

Self-Care Mission: Immediate Digital Detox

Disconnect to Reconnect. This is your inaugural step towards freedom. Our revolution starts with a decisive one-week disconnect from the digital world to confront and reclaim our lives from the pervasive trauma, comparison, and noise cluttering our online spaces.

Why? In an era where social media often becomes a battleground, Black women bear the brunt of the impact, facing a deluge of images and narratives that perpetuate violence, discrimination, and misinformation against us. This detox is not just about turning off notifications, it’s about actively choosing where we place our energy.

Self-Care Strategy

  1. Initiate a Digital Detox: Commence a week-long digital detox within 24 hours. See this for how to turn off social media for iPhone and Android.

  2. Engage in Daily Reflection: Over the next week, complete 5 daily walks using them as a time to reflect deeply on the following essential questions that pave the way to the life you envision.

Five questions to help you #GetFree

  1. What are the things I am most grateful for, and how do I express this gratitude?

  2. What are the barriers to my happiness, and how can I remove them?

  3. What divine possibilities do I see for my life this year?

  4. What boundaries do I need to set or reinforce to protect my energy and honor my needs?

  5. What does self-love look like in action for me, and how can I be more intentional about practicing it?

By the end of this week, you’ll have a clearer understanding of your answers to these pivotal questions, equipping you with the insight to start crafting the life of your dreams.

Did you know? Research by the Cleveland Clinic shows that a digital detox can help improve sleep, relationships, and mood.

Hydration Kickstart. Are you anxious or are you dehydrated? This week we drink at least 64 ounces of water each day to support our overall plan.

“Sister, the revolution will be live—right from the streets of your neighborhood.” As you step away from social, make a powerful statement. Post this meme and poem as your parting shot before you go offline, signaling your commitment to a revolution that demands your full, undivided presence. Don’t worry! You can reconnect next Monday.

Sister, you will not be able to stay home

You will not be able to log in, turn on or scroll through your timeline to catch up

You will not be able to lose yourself in TikTok videos or skip out during commercial breaks to take a phone call

Because the revolution will not be televised

The revolution will not be brought to you by The Shade Room in four part reels with subtitles

The revolution will not show you pictures of Beyonce blowing a bugle and leading the way

The revolution will not be televised

The revolution will not be brought to you by the BET Awards and will not star Regina King or Denzel Washington or Viola Davis

The revolution will not care how many followers you have

The revolution will not get rid of internet trolls

The revolution will not make you look five pounds thinner

Because the revolution will not be televised, sister

There will be no pictures of you and bae, holding hands but no faces promoting #blacklove

CNN will not be able to predict the winner at 11:32pm or report from 29 districts

The revolution will not be televised

There will be no videos of police shooting down Black men on instant replay

There will be no podcasts with talking heads who hate Black women

There will be no pictures of Michelle and Barack Obama on vacation

The Real Housewives, Love and Hip Hop, and Power will no longer be so damned relevant

And women will not care if AD is going to give Clay a second chance after “Love is Blind” because Black women will be in the street walking so they can save their own lives

The revolution will not be televised

There will be no highlights on the eleven o'clock news

And no think pieces about Will and Jada’s marriage

The theme song will not be written by Jill Scott or Erykah Badu, or sung by Mary J.

The revolution will not be televised

The revolution will not be right back after a message about Black-on-Black crime, Black Panther, or Black Twitter

You will not have to worry about the internet going down, or hackers hacking your account

The revolution will not fit into your pocket

The revolution will not fight your battles for you

The revolution will put you in the driver's seat of your own life

The revolution will not be televised, will not be televised, will not be televised, will not be televised

The revolution will be no re-run, sisters

The revolution will be live

Right from the streets of your neighborhood

(Words inspired by Gil Scott Heron)

P.S. For the next 10 weeks, we’re stepping away from social media and into the streets of our neighborhoods. Sign up for SMS text messages so you can get exclusive updates from the movement that won’t be posted on the gram.
