Picture This…

2013, the nation's capital. The moment that started it all. The first-ever #WEAREHARRIET celebration.

Now, eleven years later and 1M+ strong, we are preparing for our biggest mission yet. Increase the life expectancy of Black women by 10 years in 10 years.

PICTURE THIS. The million Black women of GirlTREK united onto one platform, connected by affinity, affiliation, and neighborhood, all walking and sharing inspiration in a safe space designed especially for us. Imagine earning badges on the platform that unlock invitations to an underground network of healing events taking place in cool venues around the world. Imagine a door-to-door care campaign where we show up at each other's homes to check on each other in person. Imagine college campuses, halfway houses, and neighborhood parks, all becoming hubs for GirlTREK activity. No woman left behind. Imagine a strategic agenda that orders our steps and unleashes our collective organizing for maximum impact.

On March 10, 2024, we will imagine no more.

This is a re-founding moment in the GirlTREK movement.

At this inaugural membership meeting, we will:

  • Introduce a new membership pledge, making it clear why we walk and what we are committing to.

  • Retire the GirlTREK Golden Shoelaces and celebrate the thousands of women who have earned them over the years. GirlTREK Golden Shoelaces have played a special role in the movement, and this year you will have one last time to claim them before they are gone forever.

  • Share key dates and activations for the year, including a preview of our new app and merch.

All of this will take place on the 110th anniversary of Harriet Tubman’s passing, with thousands of women gathering in their homes for Harriet House Parties.
