We are going on a Self-Care Scavenger Hunt to find hidden gems and secret pathways in our communities. It is time to transform our lives. 

Each day, we will take S.T.E.P.S. to practice Self-Care, find Treasures, enjoy the natural Environment, connect with People, and access Services.

(This funny audio on IG says Black people love wearing “color coordinated outfits.” Where’s the lie? Well, we also love a good acronym…and we don’t play with BINGO! So voila! Here is your S.T.E.P.S. Walking Challenge. 21 in any direction and you win! You don’t need nothing else. Bam! Let’s go!)

…but for real y’all.

Tomorrow is your “Day 1” of 30.

21 walks in one month is the goal.

Walking heals.

If you walk 30 minutes per day, just 5 days per week, over time, THIS is what happens to your body. Run, tell that.

If you maintain this healing pace for 1 week - 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week - we will mail you a free team shirt, while supplies last.

The team shirt is superhero blue. Why? …because what you are doing is breaking chains.

We want all of you - one million Black women to live 10 years longer.

This is a jumpstart.

Women who go for a morning walk live 5 years longer than those who do not get daily exercise.

That’s the start - our movement will inspire you to continue. We want you to rest and get good sleep - add more years - and together we will advocate for good food, healthy communities, and fair policies!

…but we are not asking permission here. Not today. Not for this. You see, right now, we will walk for our lives. We will live and not die.

When you take 21 walks in the next 30 days, you succeed. You are an active GirlTrek member! Boom. There it is. Success.

You qualify to register for all adventures, delegations, certifications, and races!

When you finish this challenge, you earn your GOLDEN SHOELACES.

Find somebody to hold you accountable to this jumpstart.

Ask her to open her own front door tomorrow morning in solidarity with your walk. If you live close you can do it together but don’t wait. Go.

When no one is watching and somehow everyone needs you - go! 

Lace up your shoes and turn up a classic feel-good song!

And go! Walk.

Just 15 minutes in any direction.

Slowly.

Then, come home.

That’s it.

Repeat 20 times in 30 days.
